It was undeniable that the Gentiles did not seek the Lord, nor ask after Him; and the prophet says that Jehovah was found of them that sought Him not, and was made manifest to them that asked not after Him. There was an angel of the winds, of the clouds, of the snow and hail and hoarfrost. Many times I am willing to acknowledge, "Oh yes, God is going to work out good in this. Salem Media Group. Now, because Jesus was fully a man, just as we were one with Adam, we are now one with him; and, just as we were involved in Adam's sin, we are now involved in Jesus' perfection. ( Romans 8:35.) Law works wrath because it provokes transgression; grace makes the promise sure to all the seed, not only because faith is open to the Gentile and Jew alike, but because God is looked to as a quickener of the dead. May we not say, it became vain willingly, but was made subject to vanity unwillingly? And where? Last, nothing will ever be able to separate us from God's love for us in Christ. What becomes of the souls of brutes, that go downwards, none can tell. Christ's work of redemption deserves that God should act as He does in the gospel. Jesus had come and died; Jesus had been a propitiatory sacrifice; Jesus had borne the judgment of God because of the sins He bore. There are some who still believe that; but the ancient world was really haunted by this supposed domination of a man's life by the influence of the stars. Because of the fall of man, every part of God's creation was subjected to a curse ( Romans 8:20 ). Sanday and Headlam add: Vanity is the refrain of the Book of Ecclesiastes that is without result, ineffective, which does not reach its endthe opposite of complete or perfect. Hence it is wholly apart from the law, whilst witnessed to by the law and prophets; for the law with its types had looked onward to this new kind of righteousness; and the prophets had borne their testimony that it was at hand, but not then come. subjection, as that they could not deliver themselves from it; He is not. 8:26-30 Even so, the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know what we should pray, if we are to pray as we ought. We are a minority group. Hope is always in something not yet seen. And we know that all things are working together for good to those that love God, and are the called according to his purpose ( Romans 8:28 ). Him who subjected it in hope is a reference to God, who alone had the authority and power to subject the creation to vanity, and also the option of totally destroying man because of sin, or subjecting him in hope of his redemption. (a) He died. The reason for the subjection was certainly due to man's willful and rebellious act; but the execution of God's sentence upon man for that rebellion was no part of man's will. The reproach of Christ appears riches to those who have respect to the recompence of reward, Hebrews 11:26. I shall live in that kingdom, the kingdom of light, and love, joy and peace, an heir of God, joint-heir with Jesus Christ. Then Paul said. It is no longer a question of man's guilt, but of his nature. There could be but one satisfactory answer. We have reason to pity the poor creatures that for our sin have become subject to vanity. Having shown first, then, the sources and the character of the blessing in general as far as regards deliverance, the apostle sums up the result in the end of the chapter: "That as sin hath reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life," the point being justification of life now through Jesus Christ our Lord. It was the boast of the Jews that the law spoke about them; that the Gentiles had no right to it, and were but presuming on what belonged to God's chosen people. Now Paul asks a series of questions: "If God be for us, who can be against us?" Nor should they fear persecution or even martyrdom, because through Christ they are assured of final victory (35-37). He is saying four things about Jesus. Of these only a remnant would be saved. Thank You, Lord.
